A Study On Multimedia Assisted College English Teaching

With the education modernization and the rocketing development of modern science and technology, the multimedia assisted teaching method has been a critical component of teaching and learning. Under the trend of thorough integration of modern information technology and education, the combination of multimedia technology and foreign languages teaching has been a focus in research and also a heated discussed topic in the new century’s foreign languages teaching. In the practice of college English teaching, it is quite clear to see that there are two sides of the multimedia assisted language teaching. When used properly, it not only creates more authentic language learning environment, but also stimulates student’s learning enthusiasm and motivation, which can largely improve the teaching and learning effect. When used improperly, it may not reach the expected teaching goal, becoming a form or decoration. Thus, the real situation of multimedia assisted college English teaching should be fully recognized and proper solutions and improvements to the current problems should be found to take full advantage of multimedia assisted college English teaching.Through the literature research, questionnaire survey, class observation and interview, the conclusion can be made that the status quo of multimedia assisted college English teaching is satisfactory and widely accepted. But the teacher’s and student’s roles, the class interaction and other urgent issues like teacher’s modern information literacy in the environment of multimedia assisted teaching are to be solved. And some solutions and ideas are put forward at the end of the thesis including the multimedia training to both future and in-service teachers and a tentative training system has been sketched; Teachers and students are encouraged to use smart phones to further improve the effect of multimedia assisted college English teaching, which is illustrated with an example.
