A Translation Project Report Of Confusing Confucianism With Capitalism:Culture As Impediment And/or Stimulus To Chinese Economic Development And Transport And Marketing In The Development Of The JingDezhen Porcelain Industry During The Ming And Qing Dynas

With the development of globalization, communication between China and the rest of the world is increasing, so is the academic exchanges. Translation serves as a bridge which links nations of different cultures. This thesis is a report on the translation Confusing Confucianism with Capitalism:Culture as Impediment and/or Stimulus to Chinese Economic Development written by Harriet T. Zurndorfer and Transport and Marketing in the Development of the Jing Dezhen Porcelain Industry during the Ming and Qing Dynasties written by Michael Dillon. The former analyzes whether Confucianism stimulates Chinese economic development or not in certain periods of time and the latter explores the reason for the flourish of Jing Dezhen porcelain industry during the Ming and Qing dynasties.Based on the Functional Equivalence theory of Eugene Nida, a famous American linguist, this translation report adopts the following strategies:First, the use of literal translation and free translation or combination the two; Second, adoption of amplification and omission to make the language more consistent with the expression of target language; Third, the use of regrouping and splitting to make target readers understand it easily; Fourth, adoption of domestication and foreignization to realize functional equivalence of source language and target language so as to reduce culture loss.This project helps to get knowledge of how the western scholars interpret the development of Chinese economy and to get a better understanding of Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence theory.
