A Report On Translating Xinyang Maojian Green Tea Based On Translation-oriented Text Analysis

Well-known for its long history of tea culture, China has spread its tea customs all over the world. Based on the national strategy of "the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road", it is essential for us to integrate the tea cultural resources, reinforcing the tea industry brand and advertising it at home and abroad. Additionally, as the traditional green tea favored by Chinese people, Xinyang Maojian has ranked in the top ten tea and Xinyang tea producing area is also among the top four in China (Southeast, South China, Jiangnan and Jiangbei). Therefore, the popularity to translating Xinyang Maojian related materials into English has risen in recent years.In accordance with Nord’s functional translation concept, enabling understanding of the function of ST features and the selection of translation strategies appropriate to the intended purpose of the translation, this report is based on the research of the translation practice of Chapter 1 and Chapter 6 from Xinyang Maojian. It provides a translation commission, the role of ST analysis and the functional hierarchy of translation problems, mainly including "the history and development of Xinyang Maojian" and "the tea culture and custom of Xinyang Maojian".Firstly, this report tries to explore application of Translation-oriented text analysis in translating tea-related texts. Secondly, the translating practice is a good opportunity for practicing the translating skills by the experience of translating Xinyang Maojian Green Tea under the guidance of translation-oriented text analysis.
