Xinyang folk songs were listed into the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage under the permission of the State Council in June 14,2008. But as the indispensable part of the Chinese folk songs, Xinyang folk songs had no English edition, which greatly influenced the spread of this folk culture. With collecting and sorting out the data of Xinyang folk songs and translating it into English, this report aims to inherit and further develop the Xinyang local folk culture, explore the translation methods and strategies of Chinese folk culture and provide some translation suggestions for the texts with the same genre. According to the result of index, there is no relevant translation text on Xinyang folk songs.Under the guidance of Nida’s Dynamic Equivalence theory, this report attempts to translate the introduction of Xinyang folk songs, which includes the background, the origin, the development, the artistic type, the music characteristics, the performance and the cultural heritage. The Dynamic Equivalence theory refers to four respects:lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence. This report focuses on the translation of the original text from four aspects and combine five translation methods as transliteration, literal translation with annotation, free translation and methods of adding and omitting in order to faithfully reproduce the original text. This report includes five parts. The first part briefly introduces the background of the original text, the significance and the structure of this report. The second part is the theoretical guidance of this translation report, which introduces the Dynamic Equivalence theory at length. The third part describes the translation process, which includes the preparation, the analysis of the original text and the translation text and finally makes the conclusion. The fourth part analyzes translation difficulties and translation strategies, in which the five translation strategies are illustrated in detail. In the fifth part are the primary translation text and its proofreading, translation experience, translation lessons and the problems and further study. In addition, the appendix includes the original text and the translated text.
