Baimiao Tu is the general name of a series of transcripts based on the book Narratives of Eighty-two miao albums written by ChenHao, and it belongs to local ethn-ography. This book contains eighty-two items, and all the items include both graphics and characters. This book presents a detail introduction to the ethic composition, geographical distribution, folk custom and so on in Gui Zhou in Qing Dynasty. Among the eighty-two items, only twenty-four items have given instrument images. The twenty-four items are mainly related to Miao, Dong, Bouyei and Tujia nationalities, including fifteen instruments such as Reed-Pipe and Diabolo from Miao nationality, Chinese LuteReed-Pipe and Wooden Drum from Dong nationality, Bronze Drum and Bacao from Bou yei nationality, Gong from Tujia. Meanwhile, these items also present folk culture like Moon Dance. To date, study on music culture presented in Baimiao Tuis is almost blank,only several articles have given a brief introduction to it. In this article, based on 《ompilation of Baimiao Tu transcriptsand》, combining relevant folk custom culture and the development status of the relevant national culture, I try to explore the development and changes of ethnic music culture in Gui Zhou province with the depicted Instruments as the entry point.Private copies of transcripts of Baimiao Tu have been lasting to the early republic of China, and copier in different times may misunderstand the writer’s original intention because of the difference of times and personalities, which will cause wrong paintings and add of new contents in different periods. By comparing the figures and characters in different versions, we can find the evolution process of different ethic music cultures and provide a comprehensive and systematic reference materials for the study on development and changes of music culture in Gui Zhou.In this article, I will make a longitudinal comparison between instruments and folk custom in different times and reveal the music culture information contained in Baimiao Tu. Besides, I will present changes and development of instruments and folk-custom during social transformation from Qing Dynasty to now.
