Report On Consecutive Interpreting Of The Press Conference For Launching Of Ufea Euro 2016 Official Hospitality Program

As a report on English to Chinese consecutive interpreting, this thesis describes one consecutive interpreting task conducted by the author for the press conference for launching of UEFA(Union of European Football Association) EURO 2016 official hospitality program and analyzes the interpretation of two speeches. The purpose of the thesis is to draw lessons from the interpreting practice under the guidance of register theory and improve the author’s interpretation in the future.The thesis consists of five chapters. In the first chapter, the author introduces the event. In the second chapter, the author describes the "pre-interpreting preparation" and "interpreting process". The transcript of the speeches is presented to the readers. The third chapter is an introduction to register theory from the perspective of field of discourse, tenor of discourse and mode of discourse which are three variants of register.Chapter four is case study under the guidance of register theory and the author put forward that the equivalence of register means the equivalence of ideational function,interpersonal function and textual function. To achieve this aim, the author paid special attention to transitivity system, mood, theme-rhyme structure and cohesion. The fifth chapter is a summary of the whole thesis. In terms of transitivity system, sentences of different processes are translated quite differently. Sentences of material process are usually translated into material process in Chinese. While translators should pay special attention to the process transfer concerning relational process. As for mood, declarative sentences can be translated into exclamatory sentences according to the purpose of the speech. Concerning theme-rhyme structure, when translating sentences of linear thematic progression and constant theme progression, it is better to observe the original thematic progression. As for cohesion, in E-C translation, it is common that subject pronouns and conjunctions are omitted to avoid the rigidness so as to conform to the habitual expressions of Chinese people.
