A Report On The Translation Practice Of The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

This is a report on the translation of The Great Game(Chapter 29). With the guidance of the Skopos Theory, the writer, based on vocabulary and syntax, applied some translation methods and strategies to translate, including conversion, literal translation, free translation, amplification method, omission, splitting, combined translation, order and voice changed methods. In discourse level, the writer focused on grammatical and lexical cohesions. Through analyzing texts and translation, the role of Skopos Theory playing in translation practice was embodied and emphasized.This report consists of five chapters.The first chapter introduces the description of translation task, including task introduction, author introduction and text characteristics. The second chapter demonstrates the process of translation task from the perspective of preparation before translation and translation process. The third chapter introduces Skopos Theory as theoretical guidance of the whole translation process and translation approaches under Skopos Theory. Combined with examples,t he fourth chapter makes an analysis on the usage of theory and strategy in the practice. The last chapter consists of summary and revelation.
