Ningbo is a famous historical and cultural city. It is surrounded by mountains and faced withthe sea, so water is always very important for the city of Ningbo. For thousands of years, continentculture and ocean culture have had an impact on each other, forming unique rich cultural images ofthis city. For high school students with a foundation of humanistic literacy, these images aresuitable for their travel of the heart,but full of challenges as well.This thesis is to explore the value of the language of Chinese contained in the native culturalimages of Ningbo by using the knowledge of literature, history, philosophy, linguistics,anthropology, etc. and by studying Ningbo culture. Besides, the thesis is to explore the basic wayof establishing the native cultural images by walking, reading, researching, writing, photographing,interviewing, evaluating and many other ways of learning. Third, the thesis is to complete the visits,experience, expression and research on the native cultural images of Ningbo within three years inthe order of studying “the water and the city”,“the river and the poem”“the canal and the history”“the sea and the people”. During the course, the students are encouraged to study by themselves orstudy in the groups with the help of different study resources like libraries, websites or some studyplatforms like "Ningbo Cultural Forum" and other websites. The ultimate goal is to get students toopen their Chinese learning vision, and improve their Chinese accomplishment.This thesis consists of six parts. PartⅠ is a brief introduction, which provides some backgroundinformation, purpose, significance and research contents. PartⅡ is the main body of the thesis,which focuses on the concepts of native cultural images and the generation of meaning. Part Ⅲexplains the theoretical foundation of the topics. Part Ⅳ is a series of interpretation of nativecultural images of Ningbo; In part Ⅴ, on the basis of specific cases, the thesis explains three basicapproaches of the generation of meaning, that is, the "self-sustaining""intertextuality""harmony".Part Ⅵ is the discussion and prospect, The author points out how students developtheir Chinese accomplishment after this research and the significance of the research to the Chineseeducation in the future. One of the most outstanding characters of this thesis is that it analyses the native culturalimages of Ningbo and the value of the language of Chinese. First, the thesis introduces theconcepts and teaching methods which have the characteristics of Chinese teaching, In this way, theauthor tries to explore possible ways of developing "the native people" and break through thedilemma in Chinese language training. Secondly, from the specific cases on the basis of the viewof "teaching", the author tries to evaluates students’ condition of the generation of meaning afterthey take part in the activities themselves. It is good for the construction of the curriculumresources and it also provides a reference for the comprehensive practice course, Besides, Itprovides a unique perspective on thinking like the local culture research of Ningbo. In addition,due to the imbalance between scientific culture and humanistic culture, the imbalance betweenrational and irrational factors, and the impact of the global to local culture, there exist someproblems in the world nowadays like flattening affection, indifferent morality, dying religiousemotion and so on. So the thesis has a positive significance on exploring the solving theseproblems.
