Basketball is one of the most influential sports in the world, along with great popularityamong general public. In2012the London Olympic Games, Chinese sports delegation onceagain won the second place in terms of gold medals earned, which made national people allfelt proud of Chinese athletes. But before the game there was high expectation on Chinesenational basketball teams could not make people happier. In the Beijing Olympic Games, theChinese men’s basketball team made the quarter-finals; women’s basketball team went evenfurther and won as one of the top four teams. In the2012London Olympic Games, theChinese men’s basketball team had gained nothing, and the Chinese women’s basketball teamdropped from the fourth place to the sixth. Both two teams were composed of almost the sameplayers from the previous two Olympics. China’s basketball teams had appeared a playershortage phenomenon, resulting a large number of overage national team athletes could notretire. The fundamental reason for this shortage was there was not a effective and stabletraining model for young players, thus let the overage athlete continuously cover internationalgames.Chinese college students are a special group of the society: they become important rolesof society after graduation. At the same time, university athletes are important part of thenational athletics sports. In our country’s basketball talent cultivation system, universityplayers should also be the key point in the nexus to select and train high-level basketballtalents. But due to the development of China’s college basketball tournament is not solid, in aperiod of ten years there are two representative University Basketball Games: ChinaUniversity Basketball Association (CUBA) and China University Basketball super league(CUBS); however, players participate in these two events are overlapping, and they have nohierarchy. Under this circumstance, China University basketball events could not act as thekey point of our basketball talents cultivation system. Therefore, the urgent task now isplanning and integrating the two main basketball events into different hierarchy. In this paper, through the study on the system of two college basketball tournament inChina, hope to adapt the specific facts of China’s universities basketball teams and changecollege basketball tournament in China into a more scientific, reasonable, economy gamesystem in order to promote the talented players as part of national basketball’s sustainabledevelopment system.
