English writing is an important basis that can fully reflect a student’s capability of using English. In the National College Entrance Examination of English test, the percentage of the composition is very high. In the process of English teaching and learning, writing plays an important part that cannot be ignored by teachers and students. But senior high school students often make many mistakes so that the level of their writing is very low and the present situation of English writing in senior high school is not optimistic. This study aims to analyze the writing errors of senior high school students and solve the following questions:(1)What types of errors do senior high school students’ English compositions have? What’s the proportion of each error? Among these errors, what kind of error is the most serious?(2)What are the causes of these errors?(3)What are the corresponding teaching strategies?This study adopts the method of combining qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. First of all, based on the contrastive analysis, error analysis and interlanguage theories, this article reviews different views on errors of different periods and different schools at home and abroad. Then analyzing the writing errors that the writer has collected by using data statistics to sum up the different types of errors. And then combined with questionnaires, the writer analyzes the causes of these errors. After that, the writer puts forward some feasible writing teaching strategies to reduce the student’s writing errors, improve students’ writing skills and the teachers’ teaching level.According to the study, the writer concludes that the English writing errors of senior high school students can be generally classified into three types: ontology language errors, vocabulary errors and grammar errors. There are 16 error types in detail, including verb errors, noun errors, wrong vocabulary, lexical collocation, mechanical translation, omission and redundancy of sentence elements, the confusion of part of speech, word spelling, sentence order, sentence mixture, clause errors, conjunction errors, preposition errors, punctuation errors, article errors and capitalization errors. Among these error types, the main problem is grammar error, especially the errors of verb. The causes of error are interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer, bad habits of students’ learning, the lack of teachers’ leading and wrong attitude towards writing errors. According to the predecessors’ experience and the writer’s own internship experience in teaching, the writer also puts forward some strategies on teaching and learning of English writing to reduce the number of errors and improve students’ writing level, such as understanding the differences between English and Chinese to reduce interlingual transfer errors; mastering the basic knowledge to reduce the intralingual transfer errors; correcting students’ laziness and changing bad writing habits; reinforcing the training of writing process and paying attention to instructing students to write; setting up the right attitude towards writing errors and correcting the writing errors in different ways.
