Language, culture and society are very important elements and, yet very wellrelated. Language, when engaged or referred to denote something or in meaning, isbecause of it being related in a social context or in words, contextualized in s specialculture. Any kind of language conveys a kind of culture, and language and culture are soclosely related to each other that one cannot be separated from the other.No matter whatkind of language we learn,we must learn the culture related to it. Otherwise,we cannotlearn the authentic language or communicate with the native speakers. Experimentalmanuscript of NEC for Senior School English indicates we should cultivate thestudents’ cross-cultural consciousness.English teachers in high school especially in ruralareas did not pay more attention to culture teaching even ignore it because of somereasons.In order to diagnose the implementation of NEC in high school and judge theEnglish teachers’ cross-cultural consciousness performances, It is the one of theeffective ways to carry out the investigation of the current situation of high schoolEnglish teachers’ cross-cultural consciousness performances. This paper treats culturalconsciousness target of the NEC as the reference,the author investigates theteaching,analyzes the existing problems, puts forward the modified measures, validatesthe plan and finally draw the valid conclusions.In the concrete operation processes, the author designed questionnaires,interviewed some English teachers and observed some teachers’ classes in WeishanNo.3 High School where the author had been working for 11 years. This paper aims atsolving the following problems: To find out the present situation of Englishcross-cultural consciousness for rural high school teachers, the reason of this situation,ways to cultivate the cross-cultural consciousness of high school teachers, to testifywhether these suggestions are effective or not. As for the problems above, this papergives correspondent solutions through investigation and then to verify the modifiedmethods.The result shows that the teachers did not attach the importance to English cultureteaching because of the traditional ideology, the national college entrance examinationand the teachers’ cultural knowledge. By analyzing the figures of the survey, theinterviews and classroom observing, the author makes suggestions on how to developthe teachers’ cross-cultural consciousness: the teachers should renew the ideas, learncontinuously and get the improvement in practice. The author does hope that theEnglish teachers can realize the importance of the culture teaching and pay moreattention to cultivate their students’ cross-cultural consciousness in their own classes.
