The key to keeping sustainable development of competitive sports is to strengthen the training of backup talents. Jiangsu province always has a high level of table tennis and Suzhou is a city which has many good ping-pong players. Suzhou has made a great contribution to the development of ping-pong to Jiangsu province and even to China. The respondents of this article are Suzhou’s juvenile table tennis teams. This article uses research methods of documentation, survey, expert interview, mathematical statistics, logic analysis and so on. After analyzing the present situation and model of training of Suzhou’s juvenile table tennis teams in an all-round way, this article draws the following conclusions:1. Suzhou’s juvenile table tennis teams are of the highest caliber in Jiangsu province and even in China.2. The age and play structures of Suzhou’s juvenile table tennis teams are reasonable, but the gender proportion is uneven and thus Suzhou’s juvenile table tennis teams have a problem of yang excess. The majority of players are second class athletes and athletes better than second class. The rate of developing a good ping-pong player is 96.6%. The main aims of these players are being a professional ping-pong player, love for ping-pong and entering university by playing ping-pong. Players are active in training, but they have a negative attitude towards learning other subjects.3. The gender distribution and age structures of coaches of Suzhou’s juvenile table tennis teams are reasonable. Most coaches have rich experiences and high level of ping-pong. They have reasonably high professional rank, but their educational qualifications are not so good. Although their professional proficiency is excellent, their research ability still needs to be improved. Full-time coaches have many chances to be trained. However, part-time coaches rarely have chances to receive training. Whether the finance is enough and the quality and quantity of students affect coaches’ initiative most.4. The training method of Suzhou’s juvenile table tennis teams is " combination of sports and education". The quantity of players are large and the quality of players are good. In recent years, more than 30 players entered professional team and near 40 players entered universities.5. Main difficulties of employing " combination of sports and education" to the training of backup talents of Suzhou’s juvenile table tennis teams are differences between considerations and aims, contradiction between learning and training and different training purposes.6. The training of backup talents of Suzhou’s juvenile table tennis teams have the following strategies: increase funding, improve hardware capacities, strengthen the training of coaches, optimize the structure of players, stick firmly to " combination of sports and education".
