As a newly-emerged sport program, sports dance was introduced to China in 1980s and has developed rapidly nationwide hereafter. After thirty years of promotion, sport dancing now has a broad mass basis and its level of technique has been gradually improved. In the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, sports dance became was among the most characteristic competitive events as a non-Olympic events for the first time. Chinese delegation won all the gold medals of the 10 events with six pairs of winners from different colleges and universities. Since sport dancing is welcomed among students and teachers, more and more people participate in it with frequent competitions among colleges and universities. In 2005, less than 20 universities participated in the First College Student Sports Dance Championship, while in 2014 that number was 59 with increasing number of participants. To show the competitiveness of each team, colleges and universities establish their own sports dance spare-time training team. Through the investigation on 27 sports dance spare-time training team of general comprehensive institution of higher learning who had participated in the 2014’s College Student Sports Dance Championship, this thesis finds that besides the management of university, there are a lot of factors that constrain the training level of spare-time sports dance team, which include student’s basic participation in the training, their motives for and attitudes towards the training and the proficiency and motives of teachers of the team. Hence, researching the defects in the training level of spare-time training team of general comprehensive institution of higher learning and analyzing factors that influence their training level provide the rationale for guiding spare-time sports dance training teams to improve their level.However, literature in the training of China’s spare-time sports dance training are rare. With the 27 sports dance spare-time training team of general comprehensive institution of higher learning who had participated in the 2014’s College Student Sports Dance Championship as its research object, this thesis makes an investigation on the carrying-out of training, analyzes and concludes various factors that influence the training through literature consultation, questionnaire research method and interviewing method. Finally, the thesis proposes strategies to boost sports dance, improve techniques of sports dance and make more students like and master this kind of sports. Conclusions gained through investigation and research are as follow:1. Although universities have had an overall recognition on the aim of spare-time training of sports dance, leaders of department of physical education don’t pay enough emphasis on it2. The funds for spare-time training of sports dance are in shortage. The funds mainly come from the subsidy of university and money raised by students. The unitary source of funds constrains the carrying-out of sports dance to some certain extents and hence affects the improvement of the training level of spare-time training of sports dance3. Facilities in the coaching ground for the training are also in shortage. Although some universities have special venues for sports dance training, most of universities lack ground for training which influences the arrangement of spare-time training.4. Most of teachers are enthusiastic in the spare-time training sports dancing, but factors such as leaders’ lack of emphasis, disadvantageous training conditions and low income hinder their enthusiasm in the training. Despite teachers’ positive involvement in the training, the content and method of training is single, which should be given enough emphasis in the later training.5. Students participating in the spare-time training of sports dancing are from different majors. Although they lack professional basis in sports dancing, their motives for the training are relatively good and have a pretty comprehensive understanding of how the training benefits their study and job.Suggestions:1. Department of sports management should put spare-time sports dance training as a key point of its work2. Raise the financial investment in the spare-time sports dance training and the improvement of the environment of training ground3. Increase the training time and frequency of training with enrichment in the training content.4. Allow teachers to actively participate in the spare-time training of sports dance5. Create favorable conditions to facilitate students’ enthusiasm in participating in the spare-time training of sports dance class.
