Against the background of further development in New Curriculum Reform, theexistent problems in traditional teaching are becoming increasingly challenging. Inthe past few years, researchers have been dedicating to find out how to make class-teaching more attractive, how to ignite the students’ initiatives and interests and howto increase interactions in class-teaching. The general goal of The New EnglishCurriculum Standard for Senior High School (2013edition) is to improve thestudents’ abilities of using English language in a comprehensive way, especially theirabilities of extracting and processing information, analyzing and solving problems.Meanwhile, New Curriculum Standard attaches great importance to oral English andthe nurturing of English way of thinking. In the light of the requirements of NewCurriculum Reform, seeking the transformation from tedious cramming way ofteaching to interactive teaching is urgent. As a result, Communicative and Task-basedteaching methods are becoming more and more popular. On the basis of field work in three Senior High Schools in Jinan, the authorconducts classroom observation, questionnaire of the students and interview withEnglish teachers in these three Senior High Schools so as to collect data shown in thispaper. By the analysis of the data, the author aims to explore the major modes ofinteraction for English teaching in high schools and the obstructions in theinteractions between teachers and students. Then the author proposes methods whichcan make class-interaction more effective, hoping that these methods could helpimprove teaching efficiency and the students’comprehensive abilities. The innovationof this research lies in its focus which is on the current situation of senior high schoolstudents’ English competency. The author investigates the interactions between theteacher and students in three high schools of different students’ levels, so the subjectsare wider. According to the characteristics of the different types of English course, reading classes are selected to be deeply researched and analyzed in this paper.By comprehensive research, the author draws a conclusion that interaction between teachers and students in English classes at high schools is not of highefficiency and the students-oriented class mode has not been set up. Studentspassively receive what is transmitted by teachers and they lack the awareness ofcooperation with the teachers for their own sake, which results in the slowdevelopment of their level of using English in a comprehensive and effective way. Tomeet the requirements of the Standards of New Course, teachers at high schoolsshould seek a harmonious teacher-student relationship in which the learning interestof students comes first and flexible and varied modes of interaction will be presentedfor students to choose. At the same time, teachers and students have to change theirroles, to give full play of the function of effective interaction between teachers andstudents.
