An increased government investment in the urban construction hasaccelerated the development of urbanization and has changed the inhabitantenvironment as well, especially the living pattern and ways of life. Meanwhile, the ever-accelerated urban construction has exerted a negative impact upon theneighborhood relationship shows a sign of weakening, neighborhood conceptappears to be less important than before, neighborhood intercourse decreasesdramatically and traditional neighborhood groups gradually decline. How toimprove the current pressing problem facing the neighborhood community is amajor social issue that is in dire need of prompt settlement and solutions, whichmatters most when it comes to the construction of a harmonious socialist society.Sports, an important part of the development of human society, plays a crucialrole in strengthening the people’s constitution and improving the neighborhoodrelationship.According to the formation of different types of communities of differentcities, sociologists group the communities as follows: traditional neighborhoodcommunities, unit communities, mixed integrated communities and successive marginalized communities. The coexistence of unit community and newcomprehensive community at the juncture of social transformation truly mirrorsthe Chinese characteristics of community. in order to know the neighborhoodrelationship and sports-related activities in urban communities in Taiyuan, researcher picks and chooses two particular communities among5oo communityservice centers as research subjects, and one is traditional the othermodern. Investigation is carried out, based on the different characteristics ofdifferent types of communities, on the basic situation of community residents, living conditions, neighborhood relations, and whether the participation andpromotion of sports activities are influenced by neighborhood relationship. The results show: Comparing the unit community with new comprehensivecommunity, there are differences among inhabitant’s age, monthly income, educational background, period of residence and moving-out with in five years. The youth population of Sunshine Garden Community is larger than that ofTaihang Community. Both of residents are, to some extent, highly culturallyeducate. Besides, the monthly income of residents living in new comprehensivecommunity (Sunshine Garden Community)is even higher than that of unitcommunity (Taihang Community). Because the residents dwelling in SunshineGarden Community move out, the period of residence is relatively shorter thanTaihang Community. the motives behind the weakening of neighborhood groups:In the first place, because of the rising of high-rises and skyscrapers in big citiesnowadays, the size of public spaces for neighborhood interactions accordingly shrink. Secondly, the frequent mobility of living residence leads to thedifferentiation and combination of neighborhood relations. In today’scommunity, especially for urban dwellers, the concept of neighborhood is fadingout, neighborhood relations is weakening and then the interaction betweenresidents is becoming less and less frequent. residents in both communities takepart in sports activities motivated mainly by two factors:“to benefit one’shealth” and “to make life pleasant”. The opinions of Taihang Community andSunshine Garden Community support the notion “to benefit children’seducation” ranking the third and the fourth respectively. Residents in Taihangcommunity prefer to participate in physical exercise either in the morningdaylight or at dusk. Residents in Sunshine Garden Commnity, however, choosetheir exercise time during the period of afternoon and evening. Also, residents ofdifferent age groups display an significant difference in the time arrangement oftaking exercise. Most residents in Taihang Community choose their own places, while residents in Sunshine Garden Community prefer to choose vacant spacesor square as their places. Both the consumption consciousness and level of twocommunities are not high, so the public sports places are non profitable. Butcompared to the resident population of Taihang Community, the population ofSunshine Garden Community is much higher in spending more money onstadium Satisfaction of residents of two communities to their own sportsfacilities stays low level. but residents in Taihang Community are more satisfiedwith their sports facilities than residents in Sunshine Garden Community. More and more residents in Taihang Community prefer choosing ball game due to thefavorable playground conditions. By comparison, an increasing number ofresidents in Sunshine Garden Community prefer choosing fitness equipment dueto the charging gym. The organization of both communities are relativelyineffective, and the due role of community sports organization is given no fullplay. generally speaking, those who take an active part in physical exercisesshow better connection with neighbors than those who do not. more physicalactivities involvement contributes greatly to intercourse between neighbors, tomaking acquaintance with new-coming neighbors, to fostering communitycohesion, to the cultivation of socialization of children of community,Problems of residents’ physical exercises in Taihang and Sunshine Gardecommunity:Based on the relevant survey above, the thesis will analyze those said problems and attach the importance to strengthening neighborhood in communities through physical exercises. Suggestions as follows: first of all, the local government should pay much attention to protecting social relations ever formed betweenneighbors in communities, reduce times of family removals and lengthen timecity planning, renovation and construction; then, the enough space should be offered to all neighbors for communication and enhancing the consciousness of neighborhood in the construction of dwellings; at last, according to characteristics of different communities, the sense of physical exercises should be publicized among residents, and the sense of participating in exercises should be encouraged, and the infrastructures and facilities for physical exercises should be improved i n communities as well as the related service and management should bestrengthened.
