Before 1949, the Urghur society was also under shackles of feudal institutions and concepts like other ethnic groups in China. So was marriage in Uyghur villages.The village Uyghur marriage was intervened by religion. Affected by social, political and economic reforms and factors in Xinjiang after the foundation of the new China,the Uyghur society was inevitably changed. Based on multiple in-depth field investigations and the author’s rich findings, this paper is written. It focuses on studying social situations in Shule County, living situations, changes of marriage customs and marriage systems, situations of modern marriage, changes of mate selection, divorce and intermarry distance in Uyghur villages since 1949. Since changes of marriage situations before 1949 were inadequate, the author cannot conduct a detailed analysis and summary. At last, the author reflects on marriage changes in Uyghur villages in Shule County since 1949. On the one hand, the author expounds on Uyghur marriage changes; on the other hand, the author discusses the influence of laws, economy, culture, traditional customs and concepts on marriage in Uyghur villages. It is found out that, along with the improvement of people’s cultural level and the update of their ideas, cultural and social factors have played a role in changes of Uyghur marriage. After that, changes of marriage in Uyghur villages in terms of marriage systems, mate selection, divorce and wedding ceremonies since1949 are illustrated.
