Sewage water treatment is closely correlated with ecological environment. In the different regions its characterization varies due to different geograpHical conditions, climatic conditions, living habits, and emission standards. A few years ago the domestic sewage treatment industry had a tendency of blind pursuit of new processes technologies from overseas. However, there was no thorough study to examine whether the potentially introduced technologies fitted the specific demands of domestic wastewater treatment plants. With the concept of scientific development deeply impacting people, more and more industry insiders recognize the one-sidedness and blindness of it, and commence to organize and study the status of the national sewage treatment plants. Currently the SBR technology is widely applied in small and medium size of sewage treatment plants national wide due to its advantages such as simple processing, easy management, low cost, low investment (30% lower than traditional activated sludge process), small footprint, and mature automatic controlling system.This paper combined survey methods, experimental methods, and data analysis, and investigated the sewage treatment unit of Shenyang Oil Production Plant (hereinafter referred as STSOP). According to the relevant technological and processing parameters, relevant emission standards, and domestic and international remolding cases, this paper comprehensively discussed the working principle and characteristics of sequencing batch activated sludge SBR, and studied the application prospect of SBR in China. The main contents of this study include followings.(1) In accordance with the investigation of development of SBR technology and performance of automatic controlling system during the process, this study proposed to introduce the SBR wastewater treatment technology to the remolding project of STSOP.(2) This study discussed the feasibility of short time nitrification by adjusting the time of water inflow without change of the effective volume of the water tank. The results showed that the treated water flow increased through technological innovation, which met the requirements of processing.(3) The renovation project employed the BER underwater jet aerator. Empirical results indicated high oxygen transfer rate during the process, which significantly decreased the aeration time. This technology has a strong expansion of applicability.(4) The study investigated the indirect effect of temperature on the efficiency of SBR via its direct effect on DO. According to the actual water temperature of a project is put forward to realize the shortcut nitrification-denitrification biological denitrification.(5) The feasibility of renovation project of shortening operation time was investigated by comparing the related great difference between the flow rates in winter and summer. The results demonstrated that duration of the entire SBR process was adjusted from 8 hour to 6 hour by the renovating the technology and met the demand of processing in both winter and summer.In summary, SBR treatment process integrated regulating basin, aeration tank, and sedimentation tank. The advantages included less investment, high efficiency, broad applications, and flexible operation, which are suitable for the water treatment requirements of small towns. Therefore, it is a technology fitting the demands of China, and there will be great application prospects. Considering the conditions and practical problems of Shen mining sewage treatment plant, the capacity of SBR technology can be promoted through reasonable technological innovation. It will be applicable to optimize the quality of water effluent, enhance the flexibility of operation and management, achieve the modern management, effectively prevent water pollution hazards, provide residents with a good living environment, and contribute for the realization of "environment-friendly society". Research not only has practical significance, but also provides a reference for the future reconstruction of Small Towns Water Plant.
