Grinding operations, as the preparation process for sorting minerals, occupy a significant position in the mineral processing industry. The rational selection of medium can improve grinding process, increase grinding efficiency as well as optimize grinding index. The research on grinding medium for grinding optimization has become the focus of both domestic and overseas. In addition to the traditional spherical and short-column medium, some other shapes medium has been appeared in the market in recent years. The application of these medium helps to improve grinding efficiency, reduce grinding costs, and has broad market prospects.The paper put Jianshan iron ore as test material, used three different shapes of grinding medium--spherical, cylindrical and millpebs to perform the experiment. And it examined the relevant grinding indicators, compared and analyzed the different grinding results of single shape medium (spherical, short-column) and different shapes mixture (spherical and millpebs, short-column and millpebs). The thesis primarily researched millpebs medium's appropriate proportion in mixture medium as well as influence law on grinding effects, determined the use method of millpebs medium in grinding process and laid a solid foundation for its widely application in industry.The results indicated that the suitable charge rate and material-ball ratio of single spherical medium and single short-column medium under the optimal conditions was different from each other, and the processing capacities of short-column medium was slightly higher than that of spherical medium. The particles of the short-column medium products was more uniform and its over crushing was lighter. In the process of grinding products' -0.074mm content reaching to 80% and 95%, millpebs medium suitable mixing ratio was 10% and 30% when spherical medium and millpebs medium hybrid, and the grinding rate was highest at 30% point for 0?85min, millpebs medium suitable mixing ratio was 0% and 20% when cylindrical medium and millpebs medium hybrid, but the grinding rate was highest when millpebs medium's mixing ratio was 30% on the condition of fine grinding for 55?85min. With the material particles size becoming more thiner, the effect of millpebs medium's improving grinding rate was more obvious. Joining millpebs medium in changed the particle composition of grinding products. The situation of over crushing will not deteriorate when millpebs improve products' fineness.
