The modern casting enterprises used to follow the norms of casting CAD and casting CAE,namely casting CAD is the basis of casting CAE and in turn the optimization process of casting CAD is based onthe simulation results of casting CAE. Until now, casting CAD remain to be core and foundation of the whole process of casting production, in casting design process the key point is the design of gating system and riser, which is a concrete expression of casting feeding system. Owing to separation of casting CAD design and casting CAE simulation, the designers waste a lot of time on designing scheme of casting CAD and casting CAE simulation, therefore the casting production efficiency is greatly reduced.According to field research in enterprise, we recognized that there exist many deficiencies in traditional casting3 D software in practice. Based on the general casting 3D CAD software we already have, we have developed a casting feeding system in which parameterization and template technology are mainly used. Both industry standard and factory standard are taken into account, we discreted each section in casting design and simulated all design procedure such as split face, drafting angle, sandbox, allowance, riser block, riser and so on. Database technology is widely used to store critical dimension and casting standard related parameters, therefore the process design efficiency is greatly improved.The casting feeding system is based on three-dimensional modeling software Unigraphics NX platform, we use secondary development tools UG/Open API and C++ programming language to develop all modules. We use 3D CAD secondary development technology such as parametric design, modules, assembly technology, bounding box and so on, and other commonly used developing methods such as Dynamic Link Library, Database technology, Application Migration and so on. The main research and contents are as follows: to set up common riser and special riser library; to set up riser dimensions and modulus related database; to design allowance specially for casting enterprise; to design sandbox based on bounding box; to design section curves of side riser and to generate side riser entity automatically; to migrate the application to windows 64 platform in order to improve its applicability; This feeding system can be use to design casting CAD scheme, what's more, it is specially useful for those casting enterprises using side riser. The system interface stay in step with Unigraphics NX, which improves user experience; This casting feeding system have been actually used in casting enterprises, we get good feedback from these enterprises. In a word, this feeding system can help those designers to optimize casting CAD design, improve working efficiency.
