With the development in construction and mining of open pit coal mine, the problem of slope stability is standing out and serious damage to the safety of open-pit mine and affects the economic benefits of mine.It runs through the whole process of open-pit mine production,determines the safety of open-pit mine and affects the economic benefits of mine. So according to the specific conditions of different open-pit mine, combining with change of the mining area, it is very important for controling of slope stability and providing basis for production development to scientifically evaluate the slope stability of the landslide mechanism.According to the Baorixile open pit mine’s hydrogeological investigation and engineering geological prospecting, The research analysised the influencing factors of slope stability such as stratal configuration, lithology and ground water. And discussed the variedly potential failure mode of the second mining area’s north and south slope; determined the ultimate slope angle and failure mode for Baorixile open pit mine by with limit equilibrium method; applied the FLAC3D to simulate the stress and strain of slope and monitor slope feature points. And according to the result of numerical simulation,revealed the landslide mechanism of north and south slopes, expounded the development regularity of slope’s stress and strain field,failure mode of it is shear-shift sliding failure.
