With the growing application of hard and brittle materials in many fields, such as aerospace, photonics, there are more researches focusing on the superabrasive wheel grinding technology which is the main method for processing hard and brittle materials. During the grinding process, the form of the wheel would be vulnerably damaged, the grit would be blunt and the wheel would be clogged, which would reduce the ability of material removal rate and destroy the surface of the workpiece. Therefore dressing of the grinding wheel is necessary and has significant effect on improving both the processing efficiency and the grinding quality.In this thesis, the mechanical dressing method and the processing technology of resin bond diamond grinding wheel are investigated. A dressing system is developed and used to the mechanical dressing of resin bond diamond grinding wheel. Based on the dressing effect and mechanism of different dressing methods, the best dressing method is proposed. The optimal dressing technology of resin bond diamond grinding wheel is achieved by the dressing experiment.1) A novel dressing method of resin bond diamond grinding wheel was proposed, and contrasted with the dressing method of using white corundum, silicon carbide, molybdenum and molybdenum alloys-by dressing experiment. In the comparison of dressing force, the form accuracy and the surface topography of the grinding wheel before and after dressing, the dressing effect of different tools were analyzed. Then the grinding experiment was conducted to verify the grinding performance of the wheels dressed by different dressing methods.2) In order to analyze the dressing mechanism of different dressing methods, and to find out the state and process of dressing, the topography of the dressed grinding wheel is was observed by scanning electron microscopy., and the change of element composition of the grinding wheel and the dressing tools was detected using energy dispersive spectrometer. The dressing mechanism was obtained based on the analysis of the change of grinding wheel during dressing.3) The dressing system by the best dressing tool was built. The optimum dressing and truing parameters were discussed respectively by using the orthogonal experimental design.The experimental results show that by using the selected dressing tools and the built dressing system, the dressing efficiency was greatly improved and better form accuracy and surface topography was obtained, which has significant effect on the grinding performance and grinding quality, and can promote the application of grinding.
