Acrylic latex has a lot of good performances such as good mechanical property,film-forming property,aging resistance,light resistance,weather resistance,environmental friendliness and low cost.It is widely used in coatings,adhesive,textile,papermaking,leather and so on.Cationic acrylic latex emulsions have many advantages in water treatment,paper making,coating and construction industry for it is electrically charged.However,they still have some drawbacks such as poor pollution resistance,water resistance,getting brittleness at low temperature and losing viscidity at high temperature.Presently,the modification of acrylate latex from its constitution and production technology has been studied.The emphasis is put on improving the performance of acrylate latex,expanding its range of application and making it more environmentally friendly.In addition,the way of modifying acrylate latex still has a lot to be explored.In this paper,all the cationic acrylic latexes were prepared successfully via semi-continuous seeded emulsion polymerization with the main monomer of butyl acrylate(BA),methyl methacrylate(MMA),which were initiated with 2,2’-Azobis(2-methylpropionamidine)dihydrochloride(V-50).The cationic acrylate latexes were modified from its constitution and the surfactants.The specific preparation methods are as follows.The fluorinated cationic acrylic latex was prepared successfully with the monomers of BA,MMA and hexafluorobutyl methacrylate(HFMA)emulsified with the aid of mixed surfactants of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB)and alkylphenol ethoxylates(OP-10).The novel cationic soap-free polyacrylate emulsion containing fluorine and silicon was successfully prepared with the monomers of BA,MMA,HFMA and vinyltriethoxysilane(VTES)in water phase,which were emulsified with the mixed surfactants polymerizable emulsifier 1-(2-(dimethylamino)ten ethyl)4-(3-dodecyloxiran-2-yl)but-2-enedioate(KJH-2)and OP-10.Environmentally friendly alkyl polyglucosides(APG1214)was used as the emulsifier to replace OP-10.Environmentally friendly gemini surfactant octadecyl amine ethoxylates diquaternary was used as the cationic emulsifier to replace CTAB.The novel environment-friendly,self-crosslinked and fluorinated cationic acrylic latex was prepared successfully with the monomers of BA,MMA,HFMA and hydroxy propyl methacrylate(HPMA)in water phase,which were emulsified with the mixed surfactants of gemini emulsifier and APG.The effect of the gemini surfactant on the properties of latex was discussed.And the effect of environmentally friendly emulsifier APG on the properties of the latex was discussed in detail.The cationic acrylic latex was prepared successfully with the monomers of BA,MMA,monobutyl itaconate(MBI)in water phase,which were emulsified with the mixed surfactants of dodecyl amine ethoxylates quaternary and APG.The cationic acrylic latex was prepared successfully with the monomers of BA,MMA,acrylic acid(AA)in water phase,which were emulsified with the mixed surfactants of dodecyl amine ethoxylates quaternary and polymerizable emulsifier 2-(3-((8E,11E)-pentadeca-8,11,14-trien-1-yl)phenoxy)decamers ethanol(BCE-10).All the preparing recipes and technological conditions were optimized.The resultant latexes were characterized.The modified acrylate latexes were characterized and properties of the latex and their films were tested.The results showed that the properties of modified acrylate latex were improved greatly in comparison with the conventional acrylate latex.Furthermore,the modified acrylate latexes were more environmentally friendly.
