Low pressure casting is a kind of anti-gravity molding method, this method makes the cast fill from the bottom up, solidify under high pressure, and obtain the dense metal structure. But in the practical production, the design period is long, and design efficiency is low. The main reason is that the low pressure casting process Planning are generally alternate use of two kinds of design patterns. Due to the nonuniform data of the design process, the designers need to consult the design standards largely, and do substantial repeated modification, which influences the efficiency of design greatly. In order to solve the above problems, the researcher discusses the key technologies of "Parametric 3D Casting Process Planning System for Low Pressure Casting Process", research contents and results are as follow:(1) The overall frame and the function modules of the parametric system are designed. According to research requirements, the researcher puts forward the key technology to solve the problem.(2) Casting process is studied in the structure of the MBD model, the casting process MBD model is the only data of the whole life period of design. The MBD model is defined as a 3D dimension model, process information model and feature model, the researcher uses the MBD model to realize parametric process planning.3D dimension modeling and expression methods are studied to construct the correlation of annotations and design model, which ensures that the 3D dimension information is transfered correctly. The information of the modeling process, which includes the process properties, design history, process data, etc, is associated with 3D model. Feature model is the set of 3D model in the process planning, the modeling method of casting process is incremental. Finally MBD model is used to realize the 3D parametric process planning.(3) The casting parameters is studied to determine the design of low pressure casting pouring system. MBD technology of pouring system is put forward. According to the pouring principle, the design method of sprue runner section is determined. The 3D annotation model automatically generating method and process information model are studied when the Runner model is built. Castings segmentation is used to determine the the modulus of components, which provides the reference for model size designing and riser model locating.(4) Prototype System is developed by ACIS modelling kernel, HOOPS display kernel, SQL Sever2008 database, VS2008 platform. And the system function module was verified by the example of cylinder part.
