Stop-and-go slab sizing press(SSP) is a new type of equipment with the development of hot rolling production line. It can effectively reduce the specifications of the continuous casting mould, and improve the target plane quality of the slab. It can also improves the production efficiency and the slab yield. Overall, it produces great economic benefits for the hot rolling mill.Firstly, analyzing the present situation and development trend of SSP. Through the comparison of various variable width molds, the advantages and problems of SSP are analyzed.In order to study the motion of SSP, it is significant to analyze the mechanism and operation principles of SSP. Providing accurate boundary conditions for finite element analysis.According to the motion requirements and characteristics of SSP, to analyze the control system of it. Designing the system function and software to make sure the accuracy and stability of motion.Setting up dynamic model of SSP, and studying the dynamics methods of solving problems. According the plastic deformation theory to analyze the methods of issuing lateral pressure problems. The finite element model of SSP is established. The process of slab side pressure is simulated. According to stress distribution of slab and the die and value of dog-bone height of the slab, the stress condition and deformation law of the slab are obtained. According to the theory of nonlinear contact, impact force slab of the die is analyzed. Analyzing the effects of dog-bone height on die shape. And achieving die optimization from two aspects:the change of three stages proportion and the shape of deformation stage.And proofing the reliability of die working surface shape optimization on two aspects:the reduce of dog-bone height and the impulsive force of the die.Through the methods of theoretical analysis and simulation, a systematic study is carried out on SSP, which provide effective data and theoretical guidance for the research of SSP.
