The virtual test method based on digital prototyping technology has been widely used in national defense,shipbuilding,aerospace,automobile and other manufacturing industries in recent years.Digital prototyping test based on computer visual graphic simulation has many advantages such as low cost,short testing cycle,good test repeatability,data visualization etc.It plays a more and more important role in engineering field.Therefore,the application of using this method in engineering testing has very important researching value.The 4M20-type hydrogen reciprocating compressor is the main unit used in caustic soda plant of SCAC.The first stage compression system of Unit B has suffered a series of cylinder failure caused by the piston rod stretching,which has seriously affected the safety production.In this paper,the author used digital prototyping technology in cylinder's failure analysis and finally finds failure factor.After making 3D prototyping models in Solidworks software,the author uses ADAMS software and ANSYS software in virtual analysis under different working conditions.At the same time,the author uses physical prototyping test method in analyzing the piston rod sample.It can be very directly obtained the piston rod's visual load stress condition and stress distribution.Contrasted with physical prototyping data,the application of virtual test method based on digital prototyping test can be proved genuine and believable.This method is practical and reliable,and can be used into the analysis of engineering failure cases.
