With the development of the power industry, more and more load and nonlinear load are applied into the grid from high pressure and high energy consuming equipmentimpact. AC electric arc furnace is an important steel- making equipment, due to its outstanding economic, widely present in the metals industry. But the electric arc furnace of large power consumption, low power factor, its operating characteristic determines that it will cause a great impact on the power supply system, very easy to cause the voltage fluctuation and flicker, reduce the power quality, also caused to the surrounding enterprises electricity difficulties and lighting electricity users at the same time, flicker, flicker caused by arc furnace the Steel Corp will also affect their economic efficiency, product quality and equipment safety. According to the above phenomena, this paper through a large number of literature, through research and analysis, the harm of electric arc furnace on the power network is mainly due to the irregular arc and random fluctuation caused by reactive power in the power supply system caused by. Therefore, reactive power compensation can suppress voltage fluctuation and flicker.Firstly, the paper introduces the research status, research significance and working principle. According to the actual departure,the paper analyzes the EAF electrical system model.Load mathematical model of electric arc furnace was established by using the energy conservation principle, establish the simulation model of AC electric arc furnace based on PSCAD software, the simulation results show that the voltage characteristics of electric arc furnace and its parameters impact on the grid, discusses the arc furnace load to power system caused by flicker, harmonics and reactive power problems and gives several reactive compensation schemes.
