The Research Of Bamboo Furniture Design Based On Architectural And Decorative Elements Of Xiangxi Folk Buildings

Regional and national decorative elements is widely used in contemporary design.In the field of architecture,furniture and product design,designers had always payed a close attention to the application of these elements.Moreover,nowadays people have an obvious preference on natural and low-carbon materials because they pursue a lifestyle of simplicity and high quality.So,in this study,natural bamboo is selected as the original material,bamboo furniture as a carrier,after an in-depth understanding of Xiangxi architectural features,the furniture design research is conducted based on the characteristics of regional decorative elements in Xiangxi.Firstly,by literature research,field trip,comparative analysis and other methods,an in-depth analysis is made on building components and decorative themes of Xiangxi folk houses.Among them,analysis is made on the characters,animals,plants,utensils,geometry and abstract patterns in the category of subject source;then separately on the gable roof,doors and windows,murals,roof beams and pillars and various components of decorative parts.This can provide morphological references for the modern furniture design.Secondly,based on three ways of decoration--the sculpture,clay sculpture,pile up,to further explore the traditional way of architectural decoration.Besides,the overall form and appearance of Xiangxi residential architecture is analyzed,and decorative features of Xiangxi residential architecture are highlighted from a macro perspective,which makes the grasp of decorative elements more comprehensive.These elements reflect the people’s worship of the totem of gods,the boundless love for nature,and the most sincere emotion of human beings.This paper analyzed decorative elements of architecture in Xiangxi from different angles.The rational decorative forms and emotional expressions provide a theoretical and practical basis for the modern furniture design.Moreover,for round bamboo,glued laminated bamboo and reconstituted bamboo furniture,analysis is conducted on their style,structure and decorations.Bamboo furniture can be straight or bend,traditional mortise structured or modern hardware connected,fresh and elegant,with clear straight texture and rich choice of color.They all make bamboo furniture full of rustic and classical temperament.Finally,to meet the demand of people,sustainable development,and national culture protection,this paper applied three kinds of design form:the direct application,simplify before application and reconstruction for application,which applied Xiangxi residential and architectural decorative elements to the modern bamboo furniture design.It not only about the overall shape of bamboo furniture,color,texture and decorative patterns,but also about meeting the function of bamboo furniture.In the part of design practice,a sideboard,a combined bookshelf and tea tables are designed.This study provides theoretical and methodological guidance for the form design of the contemporary bamboo furniture.Based on the extraction of regional architectural elements,transformation and application on bamboo furniture,it can meet the increasing material and spiritual needs of people,and provide reference for the research on form design of other products.
