Chlorinated polyethylene elastomer (CM) is a chlorine-containing special rubber with saturated molecular structure, which is widely used as flame resistant, sheathing and insulating materials owning to its excellent oil resistance and flame retardant properties. However, some defects of CM had limited its application. Usually, the CM is synthesized by HDPE with low or broad molecular weight distribution, which results the relatively lower tensile strength. Besides, the large amount of chlorine atoms in the structure of CM could lead the lower thermostability. Thus, it is urgent to improve the comprehensive properties of CM in the view of application and new polymer design. In this work, the CM/SiO2 and CM/TiO2-SiO2 hybrid materials combined advantages of organic and inorganic were prepared via a simple sol-gel method, the prepared materials was characterized and their performance were researched. And the main work was concluded as below:1. Using γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH550) and tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS)as precursors of SiO2 with different proportion,a series of CM/SiO2 hybird materials were prepared via an in-situ sol-gel method. The structure and micro-morphology of the CM/SiO2 hybrid materials were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray energy spectrometer (EDS) and thermogravimetric analyzer (TG). Besides, their heat-resistance and mechanical performance were tested. The results indicated that the CM/TiO2 hybrid materials had been prepared, and its heat resistance and mechanical property were superior to the pure CM elastomer.2. Using y-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH550) and tetrabutyltitanate (TBOT) as precursors, after in-situ sol-gel reaction with CM, CM/TiO2-SiO2 hybrid materials with different chemical composition were prepared. Their chemical structure and micro-morphology were characterized with FTIR, EDS, SEM, DSC and TG. Besides, their heat resistance and mechanical property were also determined. The results indicated that the TiO2-SiO2 networks had been constructed in matrix of CM materials, and the hybridation reaction between TiO2, SiO2 and CM mainly happened on the surface of CM particles, the heat resistance and mechanical property of the as-prepared CM/TiO2-SiO2 hybrid materials were superior to that of the original CM elastomer.3. To investigate the vulcanization feature of CM and CM/SiO2, they were cured with BIPB/TAC vulcanization system. The results indicated that, comparing to pure CM,with increasing SiO2 content, the vulcanization speed as well as the Mooney viscosity of CM/SiO2 increased gradually, and the cured CM/SiO2had better mechanical strength and heat-resistant performance than that of pure CM.
