The tailings as one of the three basic engineering in mines,is also the metal and non-metal mines’ major hazards.Tailings dam’s crash not only makes the loss of tailings, but also destroy the downstream area. The valleys type tailings has a complex downstream terrain, present different changes of bend and section.Dam landslide are affected by them during the evolution process, the flow characteristics have changed and the local area are affected too, bring potential threat to people’s life and property. There for, this paper use the dam-break experiment device to study the change rule of the mud flow when it at different bends and sections.First, under the condition of different bend characteristics, study how the bends influence the mud flow’s flow state 、 flow depth 、 the head speed and particle sedimentation, obtain the relevant laws, through the rules analyze and summarize the bends’ changes impact of the both shores around and the downstream area. Then, study the relationship between the bend and super elevation in bend.Compare measured value with the empirical formula calculation, fitted the results of the test, obtain the relational formula, have certain engineering reference value. Finally, study the rules of the mud flow’s flow state、flow depth and particle deposition when at different sections.Obtain that when the cross section is reducing, the ratio of section and groove width is correlated with the peak depth of the mud.At the tapered section, the thickness of particle deposition is high on both sides and low in the middle. At the divergent section, the particle deposition is opposite and so on.This paper analyzes impact on the area around the bend and section through the rules, and provide some advises for the dam’s disaster prevention.
