| We have designed and developed a new antibacterial handwash(hand santitizer)based on Tea Tree Hydrosol.Our work includes three parts,with part one being the formulation design of the handwash,using the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method,part two the studies on the antibacterial properties of the Tea Tree Hydrosol based handwash,and part three the development of an industrial process for the manufacturing of the handwash including the design and the selection of the equipments.We had developed the formation in the laboratory and done further optimization,which includes the selection of basic materials,designed various formations,property assessment,we had also piloted the formulation in the plant.The developed Tea Tree Hydrosol handwash has conformed to the national standard in terms of the antibacterial properties and active ingredient contents.We had screened the key surfactant materials for the formulation,and ended up with anionic surfactant Sodium Laureth Sulfate(AES)as the main ingredient,and amphoteric surfactant Cocamidopropyl Betaine(CAB)and nonionic surfactant Alkyl Ployglucoside 1214(APG1214)as the supporting ingredients.The optimized ratios for AES and CAB is m(AES):m(CAB)= 2:1,whereas for AES and CAB is m(AES):m(APG1214)= 3:1.The designed formulation from orthogonal tests and integrated sense evaluation has the following ingredients with AES 9%,CAB 5%,APG1214 4%,glycerol 1%,citric acid 0.45%,EDTA-2Na 0.1%,and preservatives 0.1%.The antibacterial properties of developed Tea Tree Hydrosol handwash were also studied using Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans for 2,5,10 and 20 mins.We had compared the Tea Tree Hydrosol handwash with two commercially available antibacterial handwash,and found our handwash has excellent antibacterial properties against Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,with Candida albicans has the most bacteriostasis effect.We had worked with our industrial partner to design the production process with the selection of the equipments,including water treatment and reactor designs.In summary,we had developed a novel antibacterial handwash with Tea Tree Hydrosol,that exhibited excellent properties in terms of antibacterial ability,total active ingredients contents,user tests and appearances,which paved the way for the development of further functionalized handwashes. |
