In this paper,combustion gases,pyrolysis gases and smoke of cotton and flame-retardant cottons,polyester and flame-retardant polyester,wool and flame-retardant wool fabrics were detected.Components of combustion gases of fabrics produced by a Cone Calorimeter were studied by Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry?GC-MS?.The gas components of pyrolysis of cotton fabrics produced by the muffle furnace were also analyzed by GC-MS.The smoke released by combustion of cotton and flame-retardant cottons,polyester and flame-retardant polyester,wool and flame-retardant wool fabrics were studied by Cone Calorimeter and Smoke Density Chamber.1 Study on combustion gases of fabrics?1?The results of GC-MS detection of combustion gas composition show that the combustion gas products of cotton fabric and flame retardant cotton fabrics are mainly alcohols and ketones,N/P flame retardant cotton fabric have the most products.The combustion gas products of polyester and flame retardant polyester fabrics are mainly aldehydes,alkene,ketones,benzene.The products of wool and flame retardant wool fabric are mainly alcohol and ketones.?2?The results of CO and CO2 release performance of fabrics by Cone Calorimeter show that CO production of the flame retardant cotton fabrics is increase relative to cotton,CO2 production is decrease.Flame retardant cotton fabrics are tend to incomplete combustion.CO production and CO2 production of flame retardant polyester are reduce relative to polyester;relative to wool,flame-retardant wool's CO production and CO2 production are also significantly reduce.2 Study on pyrolysis gases of fabricsThe results show that the pyrolysis gas products of cotton and flame retardant cotton fabrics are mainly alcohol and ketone in the initial pyrolysis stage,and in the main pyrolysis stage,are mainly olefin,aldehydes,alcohols,ketones and furan.There is no obvious change in the type of pyrolysis products in the main pyrolysis stage compared with cotton.3 Study on the smoke release of fabrics?1?The performance of flame burning smoke was studied by cone calorimeter.Compared with smoke production of cotton fabric,smoke production of boron flame retardant cotton fabric and silicon flame retardant cotton fabric is decrease and smoke production of N/P flame retardant cotton fabric is increase;Relative to polyester,the smoke release of flame retardant polyester fabric is increase;and the smoke release of flame retardant wool smoke release than wool fabric is decline.?2?Smoke production of combustion were detected by Smoke Density Chamber.The results show that boron and silicon flame retardant cotton fabrics have a certain smoke suppression effect,weaken the risk of fire,but the smoke production of N/P flame retardant cotton fabric is increase.Smoke production of flame retardant polyester and flame-retardant wool fabric is increase relative to their respective non-flame retardant material.Overall,after flame retardant finishing,products of combustion gases and pyrolysis gases of fabrics have no big changes.And there is a rise in the production of smoke of some flame retardant fabrics,indicate that the flame retardant fabric has a potential risk.
