BackgroundBenign prostatic hyperplasia is common and frequently occurring disease in elderly men,the main clinical manifestations of symptoms are lower urinary tract obstruction symptoms. As China entered the aging society, the prevalence of the disease is increasing year by year, seriously affecting people’s quality of life in aged with BPH.Self-efficacy is the cognition and evaluation of the individual’s ability of human behavior, which impact on people’s physical and mental conditioning system, and making the individual physiological, psychological and social function in a healthy state, thereby affecting their quality of life.ObjectiveTo understand the quality of life of elderly patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, and analyze the influencing factors,in order to provide theoretical basis for targeted nursing intervention for elderly patients with BPH,at the same time,to provide a reference for riching content of community health education.MethodsRandomly selected 11 three general hospitals in Henan Province, using cluster sampling method to select 372 hospitalized patients with inclusion criteria for the study of elderly patients with BPH.The research tool includes three parts:(1)The general information questionnaire, including age, educational level, previous occupation, the per capita monthly income, course of disease,etc.(2)Revised Version of Qualitfy of LifeScale for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Patient(BPHQLS),the scale consists of 5dimensions: disease, physiology, society, psychology, satisfaction, and 33 items. The Cronbach ’s α was 0.952,the retest reliability was 0.858,and it had good validity. The scale was scored with 5 points, and the higher the score, the higher the quality of life. The index score>66% for the high level,66%~33% for the middle level,<33% for low level.(3)The Self-rated Abilities for Health Practices scale(SRAHP),self-efficacy of elderly patients with BPH was measured by the Chinese version of SRAHP scale. The scale consists of 4 dimensions: nutrition, exercise, psychological adjustment and health responsibility, and 28 items.Through the pre investigation was performed on 30 patients with BPH,the cronbach’s alpha was 0.959,nutrition,exercise,psychological adjustment and health responsibility of the four dimensions of the Cronbach’s alpha were 0.881,0.921,0.875,0.878.The scale was scored by Likert-5 score, the higher the score, the higher the self-efficacy.Score index>80% for high level,40%~80% for middle level,<40% for low level. The data was statistically analyzed by SPSS17.0 software, statistical methods included descriptive statistical analysis,t test, analysis of variance, pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis.Results1.Quality of life of aged with BPH The scores of quality of life of elderly patients with BPH were 104.77±20.04,according to the score index, the score rate was 65.5%.Disease dimension 45.28±10.66,physiological dimension 13.97±3.65,social dimension18.18±4.06,psychological dimension 21.61±5.07,satisfaction 5.73±1.64,the scoring rate was 60.4%,69.9%,72.7%,72%,57.3%,respectively.2.Self-efficacy of aged with BPH The self-efficacy score of elderly patients with BPH was 56.12±23.72,and the score rate was 50.1%.The scores of nutrition, exercise, psychological adjustment and health responsibility were 13.91±6.80,14.32±7.61,12.66±6.14 and 15.23±6.24,respectively.The scores were 49.7%,51.1%,45.2%,54.4%,respectively.3.Correlation between self-efficacy and quality of life in aged with BPH The self-efficacy and quality of life of elderly patients with BPH were significantly positively correlated,r=0.561,P<0.01;self-efficacy of each dimension and quality of life of each dimension were positively correlated,r=0.202~0.619,P<0.05.4.Factors affecting the quality of life of aged with BPH By single factor analysis, different age, education, marital status, sexual life frequency, previous career, family income per month, place of residence, living mode, course of disease, combined with other chronic diseases affect the quality of life of aged with BPH,the difference is statistically significant,P < 0.05;From the results of multiple linear regression, age, cultural degree, frequency of sexual life, course of disease, marital status, income per month and self-efficacy were entering to the regression equation of the quality of life as the dependent variables, which could explain 52% of its variance,P<0.05.ConclusionsThe quality of life in aged with BPH was in the medium level. The main factors that affect the quality of life in aged with BPH were age, education, sexual life, disease course, marital status, monthly income and self-efficacy.
