Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the result of L-shaped reduction malarplasty in the asymmetrical prominent zygoma and analysis the feasibility of quantitative measurement method based on digital photograph. Then we used this method to evalue the positional change of malar eminence after operation and explore the relationship between the malar eminence change and removed bone amount in the operation.Method We collected the patients’data who had asymmetrical prominent zygoma and received L-shaped reduction malarplasty on one or two sides, and included 35 cases into our study. The satisfaction survey about the symmetry and facial profile after operation was conducted through telephone interview. We used the Photoshop 7.0 to measure the parameters of malar eminence and height in the standard photographs, then the results were applied comparative t-test to perform statistical analysis, including the lager vs smaller side before operation, the pre-operation vs post-operation and the left vs right side after operation. Finally, we used the Origin 8.0 to acquire a function relationship between the value of changing malar eminence and removed bone amount. Results Among the 35 cases, the 94.3% were satisfied with the symmetry and the 88.6% were satisfied with the facial profile without surgical failure and complication. The difference of malar eminence and height between the lager and smaller side was significant. The malar eminence showed a significant decrease in prominence between the pre-operation and post-operation groups without a significant change in height. There was no significant difference between bilateral malar after the operation. We had not find out a suitable matched curve and function between the value of changing malar eminence and removed bone amount. Conclusion The L-shaped reduction malarplasty posed a good result in correction of asymmetrical prominent zygoma. The quantitative measurement method based on digital photograph was reliable and authentic and easy to use. We had not acquired the function between the value of changing malar eminence and removed bone amount with present data. |
