Objective: Started from theories concerning constitution in Traditional Chinese Medicine, epidemiological investigation is used in this paper to study risk factors in recovery-staged cerebral infraction patients with blood stasis-featured constitution. The traditional Chinese medical ideology of “preventive treatment of disease” is integrated, with focusing on preventions, to provide basis for symptom improvement and secondary prevention in patients with blood stasis-featured constitution during recovery phases of cerebral infraction.Method: Clinical investigation was conducted in cerebral infraction patients who were admitted in Shangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yantai Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Penglai Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from March 2014 to December 2015. According to enrollment, exclusion and rejection criteria, recovery-staged cerebral infraction patients were selected and divided for their constitutions in Traditional Chinese Medicine according to Classification and Determination of Constitution in TCM(ZYYXH/T157-2009), which was issued by China Association of Chinese Medicine in 2009. A total of 403 patients with blood stasis-featured constitution and 100 patients with normal constitution were selected. Clinical questionnaires concerning risk factor during recovery stage for cerebral infraction were filled, which covered general information, including gender, age, nation, working condition, being central obesity or not, sleep quality, staying-up, physical exercises or not, smoking, drinking, dietary preferences and life hobbies, and profile of medical history, including hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, dyslipidemia, stroke and others. SPSS17.0 was used for statistical analysis and comparison. The chi-square test was adopted for the analysis on correlation between blood stasis-featured constitution and risk factors. Multi-factor Logistic regression analysis was also used for the analysis. Results: 1. The chi-square test shows that the distributions of factors, including working intensity, sleep, staying-up, physical exercise, history of heart disease, high total cholesterol(TC), high low-density lipoprotein(LDL-c), smoking and dietary preferences on heavy and salty flavor, show statistical significances(P<0.05 or P<0.01) in recovery-staged cerebral infraction patients with blood stasis-featured constitution than in patients with normal constitution.2. With multi-factor Logistic regression analysis, it is showed that factors, including work tension, poor sleep quality, lack of physical exercise, history of heart disease and dietary preferences on heavy and salty flavor, show statistical significances(P<0.05 or P<0.01) in recovery-staged cerebral infraction patients with blood stasis-featured constitution when comparing to patients with normal constitution. The factors are ranked as history of heart disease, lack of physical exercise, poor sleep quality, work tension and dietary preferences on heavy and salty flavor from high to low OR.Conclusion: Comparing to ones with normal constitution, major risk factors in recovery-staged cerebral infraction patients with blood stasis-featured constitution cover history of heart disease, lack of physical exercise, poor sleep quality, work tension and dietary preferences on heavy and salty flavor. Interventions targeting at these risk factors and proper constitution-oriented adjustments with Chinese medical theories are effective approaches for symptom improvements and secondary preventions in recovery-staged cerebral infraction patients with blood stasis-featured constitution.
