| Objective:Unrelated cord blood transplantation is an alternative choice for high-risk acute leukaemia patients who lack another source of stem cells. Comparisons of engagement, overall survival, graft-versus-host disease-free/relapse-free survival and life quality after transplantation are ideal.endpoints to evaluate a healthy recovery after transplant. Method: The engagement, overall survival (OS), graft-versus-host disease-free/relapse-free survival (GRFS) and life quality (LQ) after transplantation of 31 patients with high-risk acute leukaemia (AL) who underwent unrelated cord blood transplantation (UCBT) or allo-peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (allo-PBSCT) were observed and compared.Result:There was no significant difference between the two groups in the cumulative incidence of myeloid and platelet engagement or the time of platelet engagement. However, the time of myeloid engagement of the allo-PBSCT group was earlier than that of the UCBT group. Compared to allo-PBSCT, the 2-year probability of OS, relapse rate and transplantation-related mortality (TRM) after the UCBT showed no significant difference. However, GRFS after the UCBT (75%) was higher than that after the allo-PBSCT (45%). Conclusion:Patients with high-risk acute leukaemia who undergo a UCBT can acquire similar main outcomes to patient who undergo an allo-PBSCT but with a higher GRFS and better LQ after transplant. |
