| Objective: To investigate the actual situation of the competency of junior nurses in Luoyang Class-A tertiary hospitals,and to clarify the factors influencing the competency of junior nurses in the Class-A tertiary hospitals in LuoyangMethods: A cross-sectional study on the competency of junior nurses in the Class-A tertiary hospitals in Luoyang was conducted with the combination of quantitative research and qualitative research.Quantitative research: A questionnaire survey of junior nurses in hospitals in Luoyang was performed by convenience sampling method.The questionnaires include general information questionnaire and "Chinese registered nurse core competence scale ",The statistical analysis was performed with IBM SPSS Statistics 23 software.The t test,t’ test,one-way ANOVA followed by LSD test for post hoc comparisons,Pearson correlation analysis and multiple stepwise linear regression were employed.Qualitative research: The purposive sampling method with interview outline was adopted for junior nurses,doctors and senior nurses infunder the ormation saturation principle.Data were analyzed by Colaizzi seven step method.Results:1 Quantitative ResearchIn this study,a total of 406 questionnaires were distributed,The effective responded rate was 93.1%.1.1 The total score of competency of junior nurses in hospitals of Luoyang city was(137.30 + 28.96).The mean item scores increased from critical thinking /scientific research ability(2.32 + 0.57),education / advisory capacity(2.34 + 0.63),clinical nursing ability(2.49 + 0.54),professional development ability(2.49 + 0.65),interpersonal relationship(2.56 + 0.59),leadership(2.60 + 0.57),to legal / ethical practice ability(2.62 + 0.59).1.2 There were significant differences in gender,nursing age,level,marital status,clinical teaching,taking nursing as the first choice,professional interest,duty of junior nurses(P < 0.05).No obvious differences were observed in department,education,employment,job title,being the class cadres in college(P>0.05).1.3 The study status,marital status,clinical teaching,level,professional interest affect the competencies of junior nurses.2 qualitative researchThe influence factors of competency of junior nurses were investigated by interviewing 24 nurses and doctors.Potential factors affecting competency of junior nurses included 5 factors,which can be divided into organizational and individual factors.The former enrolled Team atmosphere,salary and the latter included self-directed learning,personality and emotional quotient.Conclusion: The competency of junior nurses was on the medium level and affected by advanced studies,marital status,clinical teaching,level,professional interest,Team atmosphere,salary,self-directed learning,personality and emotional quotient.Nursing colleges and hospitals should improve thelearning and training programs,in order to enhance the competency of junior nurses,safy and quality of nursing. |
