Objective:To investigate the effect of berberine on the stability of carotid atherosclerotic plaque and serum matrix metalloproteinases-9(MMP-9),oxidized low density lipoprotein(ox-LDL)in patients with cerebral infarction.Methods:The patients with carotid atherosclerotic cerebral infarction(n=100)were chosen from December 2015 to August 2016,and randomly divided into control group(50 cases)and berberine group(50 cases).Control group was given routine treatment,while berberine group was given berberine on the basis of control group,continuous application for 6 months.Both groups were extracted decubitus venous blood before and after treatment for 3 months and6 months,serum ox-LDL and MMP-9 were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay;plasma total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)were measured by automatic biochemical analyzer;carotid intima-media thickness(IMT),crouse score of atherosclerotic plaque and the number of unstable plaque were measured by carotid color doppler ultrasound.Before and after treatment for 3 months and6 months,the neural function defect scale was scored by Barthel Index(BI)and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS).Results:1 Plaque index between berberine group and control group after 6 months of treatment :After 3,6 months of treatment,datas of the carotid artery intima media thickness IMT score,the crouse score of atherosclerotic plaque and the number of unstable plaque was analyzed by repeated measurement of variance.The results showed that:(1)At different time points,the numbers of IMT scores(F=5.762,P=0.004),crouse score(F=6.661,P=0.002)and the number of hypoechoic plaques(F=12.139,P=0.000)were different.(2)The carotid artery intima media thickness IMT score(F=4.301,P=0.041),the crouse score of atherosclerotic plaque(F=3.981,P=0.049),and the number of hypoechoic plaques(F=4.773,P=0.031)of the berberine group and control group were different,and the improvement degree of berberine group is superior to the control group.(3)Interaction of berberine group and control group in the IMT score(F=2.672,P=0.072),the crouse score(F=0.702,P=0.482),the number of hypoechoic plaques(F=2.252,P=0.108)between time and group was not significant.2 Blood lipid indicators between berberine group and control group after6 months of treatment :After 3,6 months of treatment,datas of the blood lipid indicators were analyzed by repeated measurement of variance.The results showed that:(1)At different time points,TC(F=15.707,P=0.000),TG(F=9.748,P=0.000)and LDL(F=5.805,P=0.004)were different.(2)The levels of TC(F=5.104,P=0.022),TG(F=5.047,P=0.027)and LDL(F=5.593,P=0.020)between the berberine group and control group were different,and the improvement degree of berberine group is superior to the control group.(3)Interaction of berberine group and control group in TC(F=2.497,P=0.080),TG(F=1.082,P=0.340)between time and group was not significant,but LDL(F=3.959,P=0.021)was different.3 MMP-9 and ox-LDL between berberine group and control group after 6months of treatment :After 3,6 months of treatment,datas of MMP-9 and ox-LDL was analyzed by repeated measurement of variance.The results showed that:(1)At different time points,the numbers of ox-LDL(F=4.460,P=0.013),MMP-9(F=7.933,P=0.001)were different.(2)The the amount of ox-LDL(F=4.409,P=0.038),MMP-9(F=4.184,P=0.043)of the berberine group and control group were different,and the improvement degree of berberine groupis superior to the control group.(3)Interaction of berberine group and control group in ox-LDL(F=0.607,P=0.546)?MMP-9(F=2.349,P=0.102)between time and group was not significant.4 BI index between berberine group and control group after 6 months of treatment :After 3,6 months of treatment,datas of f BI index was analyzed by repeated measurement of variance.The results showed that:(1)At different time points,BI index(F=13.555,P=0.000)was different.(2)BI index(F=4.733,P=0.032)of the berberine group and control group was different,and the improvement degree of berberine group is superior to the control group.(3)Interaction of berberine group and control group in BI index(F=7.321,P=0.001)between time and group was not significant.5 The NIHSS score between berberine group and control group after 6months of treatment :After 3,6 months of treatment,datas of the NIHSS score was analyzed by repeated measurement of variance.The results showed that:(1)At different time points,the NIHSS score(F=334.039,P=0.000)were different.(2)The NIHSS score(F=19.363,P=0.000)of the berberine group and control group was different,and the improvement degree of berberine group is superior to the control group.(3)Interaction of berberine group and control group in the NIHSS score(F=17.039,P=0.001)between time and group was not significant.Conclusion:Berberine has effects of stabilizing and reducing carotid therosclerotic plaque,lowering blood fat,antioxidation,reducing matrix metalloproteinases-9 and oxidized low density lipoprotein,improving the neurological function.
