Objective In this study, patients with maintenance hemodialysis(MHD)who had negative emotions of lower grade and above were treated with horticultural therapy for 12 weeks before treated with hemodialysis,to investigate and evaluate the effect of the intervention therapy on negative emotion and quality of life(QOL)in such patients. Methods The 66 patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into the intervention group and the control group of 33 patients. This study was an experimental study.62 subjects completed the study, with 32 cases in the experimental group and 30 cases in the control group. The control group received routine hemodialysis, and the experimental group,in addition to routine hemodialysis, was treated with horticultural therapy for 12 weeks, twice a week and 4 weeks as a round.Intervention measures:intervention was performed about 30 minutes before hemodialysis. After a round(4 weeks)and three rounds(12 weeks)of intervention treatment,K10 psychological scale and KDQOL-36TM quality of life scale of patients were collected and analyzed and evaluated. All data were input into the computer for statistical analysis using SPSS22.0 statistical software, and measurement data were expressed using mean ± standard difference for statistical description, and categorical data were expressed using frequency(percentage)for statistical description,t test was employed to compare continuous indexes before treatment between groups, and covariance analysis of base-line correction to compare continuous indexes after treatment between groups. And χ2 test was applied for comparison between the groups in categorical data.Results(1)statistical analysis of general data of patients showed no statistically significant differences between the two groups in gender, age, education level and other aspects(P>0.05),and they were comparable;(2)compared to the experimental group, the score of K10 scale in the control group decreased significantly, and the scores of each aspect of the quality of life scale increased significantly, showing statistical differences(P<0.05);but no significant difference was seen in the scores of the control group;it was seen both in the comparisons between the two groups and within the experimental group that horticultural therapy could significantly improve psychological state of patients with MHD and improve their QOL;(3)from the first round of intervention(4 weeks)to the end of the third(12 weeks)round of intervention, scores of K10 scale of the experimental group further decreased, with statistical significances in the differences between and within group(P<0.05,P<0.01);(4)QOL score after intervention:after four weeks of intervention, psychological state of patients in the experimental group improved significantly compared to the control group(P<0.05),and there were no significant differences in other aspects, the difference not being statistically significant(P>0.05);after twelve weeks of treatment, each aspect of QOL of patients in the experimental group was better than that of the control group, the difference being statistically significant(P<0.05),especially the psychological state, which significantly improved compared to the control group and before intervention, the difference being statistically significant(P<0.05,P<0.01).Conclusion Horticultural therapy significantly decreased negative emotion score of the K10 psychological scale of patients with MHD assessment, improved the psychological status of patients;KDQOL-36TM scale showed patients’ QOL improved significantly, which was especially reflected in the improvement of psychological function and subjective life satisfaction of patients;this study provides basis and reference for nursing staff to perform psychological intervention to patients with MHD,which also suggests the effectiveness and necessity of long-term clinical intervention,so a long-term intervention mechanism for patients with MHD should be established.
