Media Construction And Change Of Depression Discourse In China

In a 2012 report entitled Depression:A Global Crisis,the World Health Organization said that depression has become China’s second-largest burden of disease and is expected to rise to the top of the world’s burden of disease by 2030.At present,there are about 350 million people with depression in the world and about 30 million people have been diagnosed with depression in our country.Depression is a growing trend around the world,and the media,as a channel for people to access counseling and news,is crucial to the construction of a depressive discourse.However,there is very little literature on the reports of domestic media on depression.Therefore,this article reviews all the depression-related reports in China since the beginning of the present study.Based on the annual changes of depression discourse,how to construct the discourse of depression and the power distribution behind the specific texts to analyze the transmission bias and Power relations.First of all,the reports of depression appeared from 2000 and have been rising and fluctuating in general so far.In the three types of newspapers,the market newspaper for the highest degree of concern about depression,the party newspaper followed,the last for the health industry newspaper.In the specific text analysis,this article will be reported into two categories of news events and health information categories.In the reportage of news events,the author uses the four functions of the medium of frame theory to analyze,and finds that there are significant social elites in the discourse of depression events of news events,and the causes of attribution reasoning confirm that the doctor’s discourse is prominent and the moral evaluation Aspects of the incident attribute to suicide and treatment methods and social assistance lack of phenomenon.In the report of health information,we use Foucault to discourse discourse on the concept of power and truth.It is found that the source of depression in health information is dominated by medical discourse,the symptom of disease is insomnia,and the treatment is based on drugs As the key phenomenon.Second,in terms of power distribution,media discourse has a greater power in reporting on news events.Whether it is the selection of person types in depression,the highlighting of event attributes,and the negligence of prevention and control measures,screening,categorization,presentation and The construction of the right to determine,in the confirmation of the source of the illness also share some control over medical discourse and official discourse.In the health information reporting,the media discourse is relatively let in the more scientific and authoritative medical discourse,medical discourse in the health information reported in the dominant.However,the words of patients waiting to show their appearance in the delivery of health messages have been obscured and become a dark area that has yet to be reclaimed and voted for.In general,media discourse and medical discourse respectively occupy a place in the different categories of depression-related reports,which jointly dominate the topics,contents and meanings of the media coverage of depression.
