Objective To explore the postoperative clinical outcome of patients with medial compartmental osteoarthritis associated with knee varus with analysis of lateral high closing tibial osteotomy. Methods According to the pre-operative inclusion and exclusion criteria,23 patients with medial compartmental osteoarthritis were treated retrospectively from June 2007 to June 2016 using distal tibial distal osteotomy, including 3 males and 20 females.example.The mean age was(54±3.8)years and the average follow-up time was(5.7±3.2)years.Observed indicators include: X-rays of the knees were measured before, during, and after the final follow-up.Knee joint scores(AKS)of the US Special Surgery Hospital were used to assess joint pain, function, deformity, and range of motion.Western Ontario Medical University was used. The Osteoarthritis Index Visualization Scale(WOMAC)score was used to assess the degree of postoperative knee pain. All indicators were statistically analyzed to evaluate their postoperative efficacy. Results The average age of the patients was(54±3.8)years(range 48-61 years old). The mean BMI was 24.1 + 1(range 22-25.7 Kg/M2),preoperative FTA(183.96 + 1.68)and final follow-up FTA(172.96 + 2.19)(P <0.01).The average correction angle is 10.6 ± 2.8°.Preoperative AKS(66.96 ± 2.85)and last follow-up AKS(84.71 ± 13.76)(P <0.01).Preoperative WOMAC was 159.72 ± 12.30,and WOMAC was 25.88 ± 31.98 at the last follow-up(P <0.01).The preoperative PTS was 10.64 ± 0.99,and the final follow-up was7.68±1.81(P<0.01).Conclusion The tibial lateral closure high osteotomy for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis and flexion and varus deformity can obtain good long-term efficacy.Preoperative selection of patients is particularly important;long-leg cast immobilization during surgery does not lose the correction of the osteotomy. The medium and long-term survival after the high tibial osteotomy is acceptable, and postoperative complications are within a controllable range. This procedure can therefore be widely recommended as a reliable treatment for patients suffering from medial compartment osteoarthritis.
