| This is a translation project report for a section of Chapter Two from The Politics of Policy Change. The original chapter mainly probes into the historical development of health insurance, the background of establishing public insurance for the elderly as well as the conflicts it brings in, and the scope and limit of government health care. It also points out the conflicts between private institutions and public insurance group, and the partisan split in the United States. This translation report consists of five chapters. The first Chapter is a project overview, followed by background information, significance and purposes of the translation project. The second chapter is mainly concerned with the process of translation, including the preparation before translation, analysis of the text and proofreading. The third chapter is a comparative study of the differences between Chinese and English and the origins leading to such differences, like thinking modes, writing styles, and cohesion and coherence, as well as the communicative translation theory are also involved. The fourth chapter talked about the translation methods of the political text. There are many difficult tasks in this project, of which the ways to deal with the long sentences are the most essential. Translation techniques like translating in the original order, rearrangement, and splitting were adopted and discussed with examples excerpted from the translation project. The last chapter is a summary of the project. It concludes with the experience and enlightenment gained and some problems to be solved. |
