A Translation Project Report Of Digital Humanities(Chapter 1)

This is a translation report of Chapter one of the book Digital Humanities written by several scholars. The source text explores emerging forms of trans-media research and the increasing importance of prototyping, experimentation, and tool and platform development for contemporary scholarship in the humanities. Four chapters are included in this report. Chapter 1 makes an introduction to the book as well as the selected part, including the relevant information of background, aim and significance. Evaluation and language features of the original text are also discussed in this part. The shifting process from humanities to digital humanities is explained in the original text, and some developments in other relevant fields are also introduced. Chapter 2 explains translation preparations for the project and makes an analysis of the source text. In Chapter 3, the translation theory of the Functionalists is briefly introduced, which is the theoretical framework of the whole project. In addition, translation techniques dealing with difficult words, including proper nouns and terms that are frequently used in the original text, expressions and complex sentences are discussed and compared, and some examples in the translation project are also selected for further discussion. For those long and complex sentences, amplification, recasting and division are often used during the translating process. The last chapter summarizes the translator’s experience in this translation project and some problems to be solved are also put forward.
