| Medical problems are a debating issue in contemporary society.Therefore,the translator attaches great importance to medical problems and doctor-patient relationship when selecting the translated text,aiming to call for social attention to medical problems and promote the reform of medical system.This paper is a translation report based on Dr.Eisenberg’s scientific book Love is the Strongest Medicine.When translating it,the translator discovers long and complex sentences are an involved problem.By studying the original text and analyzing the difficulties in translation,the translator puts the Newmark’s communicative translation theory to use and sums up four translation methods of long and complex sentences,namely conversion,amplification,reconstruction and division,with intent to provide reference for the translation of this kind of text.When making an analysis of the translation of long and complex sentences,the four translation methods are adopted so that the target language readers and the source language readers have the same reading experience.There is uniformity between this apply and Newmark’s communicative translation theory,which emphasizes the dominant role of target language readers,and the purpose of popular science text communicating technology and concept.When reading popular science texts and translating the complex sentences of them,the communicative translation theory can make the translation more accurate,and reduce the traces of translation to the best of translator’s ability,for the purpose of pandering to the target language readers’ reading habits.Through the translation of this text,we can know about the medical system of the U.S.A as an example.Meanwhile,by writing this translation report,the translator will list out the problems falling across the translation process and the corresponding strategies,which will help improve the translator’s translation level and attainment.In addition,this translation practice can provide cases for the translation of similar topics,and also provide relevant suggestions for domestic readers showing solicitude for this aspect. |
