Translation Practice Report On A Project Book About Edible Mushroom Culture

This paper is a translation practice report on a project book; the translation material is a project book that the translator is entrusted by a cooperative. The syntactic structure of this project book is symmetry, with duality of the sentence clusters, strong sense of rhythm, extensive use of numerical amount of numerical and technical terms. This project book also has strong persuasive and informative function. By certain analysis, the author studies the features of the text and finally put the theory into practice.Textual characteristics of this project book are analyzed in detail from the perspective of vocabulary, syntax and discourse respectively. The author analyzes this project book by combining corresponding representative cases with the characteristics of the writing style of the project book. The analyses of translation of vocabulary, syntax and discourse in this project book are included in this report. Semantic translation and communicative translation approaches are adopted in this paper. Different translation strategies will be used under different circumstances.There are four sections in this translation practice report. The first part is the description of translation task, containing task source description and task profile description. The second part is the description of translation processes. It introduces the preparation for the task, formal stages of translation and proofreading. The third part is case study on translation. This part mainly introduces style characteristics of the text and analyses of some typical cases. The fourth part is the summary section of this translation practice report. This part summarizes the translation strategies for and translation standards of Chinese project book and the translator’s comprehension about the translation of this project book.By writing the project report, the author forms an entire comprehensive reflection to translation processes and get familiar with stylistic features of the project book and its corresponding translation strategies, which provide a rich experience for translators in the field of translation practice and also offer later translator’s some valuable experience in the future.
