The Interpretation Of The Magic World In Harry Potter From The Perspective Of Ecofeminism

Contemporary British writer J.K.Rowling’s Harry Potter series are fantastic and varied,once available then triggered a global popularity.The boisterous literary landscape actually contains a rich and complex cultural issues and serious academic discussions urgently needed.Based on the strong criticism of mechanical view of nature and dualism thought in Merchant’s ecological and feminist theory,this article carries on a deep analysis of the rebellion against modernity and values of equality in Harry Potter’s magic world.Merchant criticizes the Mechanistic View of Nature’s damage to the relationship between Man and Nature and the relationship among people,and attacks the lack of art and imagination caused by excessive reason produced by the Mechanistic View of Nature;second,she proposes that as the philosophical foundation of Mechanical View of Nature,Dualism has caused the discrimination and oppression against the "other" in nature and culture;third,she reveals that the Mechanistic View of Nature and Dualism values have belittled women’s image.how Rowling uses ancient magic,this kind of ancient margin culture of the “other” as the soil of creation to build an organic,equal world.In this world,the modern survival samples and relative anthropocentrism dominated by technology are rejected and strongly criticized,as gender discrimination,religious hegemony,racial discrimination and ecological destruction,etc.Female characters diminished with nature all the time before also begin to show a new image in front of readers different from the reluctantly darken witch in history.The conclusio of this study is that magic world in Harry Potter shows that in its organic society,pure mechanical progress and discrimination are abandoned;the image of women and nature under oppression are not taken for granted;genders are equal and able to work together to promote the progress of society.So in reality,we should critically examine history again,the purpose of which is not going back to the original period,but to find the values associated with the pre-modern world,because it might be worth transforming and reorganizing to the society of today and tomorrow.
