Different from notional words, the function words often do not have corresponding fixed translations. The Chinese word “de” is a very common function word. The “de” can be used as structural auxiliary word, mood auxiliary and tense auxiliary word etc, which can represent modified relation, restriction relation, tone emphasis and past tense etc. Due to the complex and diversified meanings and usages, the Japanese translation “de” becomes more complex and diversified with difficult mastery. Besides, “de” is not only frequently used in Chinese, but occupies a rather important position in the process of Japanese translation. Therefore, based on its Chinese semantics and usages, this thesis analyzed a large number of example sentences and found out the appropriate methods and rules according to the previous researches so as to enrich the Chinese-Japanese translation practice.Chapter one mainly involved the relevant research background, source of example sentences as well as research objective and significance. Chapter two conducted detailed clarification and classification on function word “de”'s meanings and usage. Chapter three studied “de”'s Japanese translation by combining a large number of sentences based on its meaning and usage classification aiming to summarize the corresponding rules and methods. As the key parts of this thesis, this chapter studied “de”'s Japanese translation from four aspects including structural auxiliary word, mood auxiliary word, past tense and special usages. Chapter four concluded the thesis, summarized the related method and rules and proved the importance of semantic comprehension, flexible translation, solid language foundation and accumulated translation works. The research on “de”'s Japanese translation can not only enrich the ChineseJapanese translation experience, but is an important part of Chinese-Japanese translation theory. The comprehensive and specific research on “de”'s Japanese translation can provide certain preference for wide translators who pursue “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance” translation so as to promote the efficiency and quality of Chinese-Japanese translation.
