As the important representative of Chinese traditional arts,calligraphy can run a long history and deduce its’ extensive and profound.It has different phenomenon and emphasis in each period from Qing dynasty to the contemporary.Each era has its own pursuit and style.There are many famous people who have the different discourse about various types of calligraphy in each period.As the most recent dynasty,Qing dynasty has rich materials and it has a profound impact on calligraphy.Seal and clerical script resurgence is the important phenomenon which has lacked the intensive study in long times,it has more scattered but less system theory.This paper has a system discourse and research about this phenomenon.The paper is divided into four chapters.Fist chapter,it mainly discusses the social background of seal and clerical script resurgence in the Ming and pre-Qing dynasty through the summary of the calligraphy style,the metaphor of words and the realistic of textual research.Then founds the objective reasons: Puxue(simple and plain learning),the effect of literary inquisition and the textual research on early Qing dynasty,etc.Chapter two,it mainly introduces the ideological and cultural foundations.This part discusses the objective elements: the convert of academic thoughts which caused by the textual research,the influences which caused by epigraphy and the collection of epigraphy stone.Then it talks about the initiative factors of calligraphers.To conclude,the humanities background not only caused by the objective conditions----the change of dynasty and epigraphy,but mostly influenced by the aesthetic standards of epigraphy and calligraphers’ mentality factors.In chapter three,it mainly talks about the performance of seal and clerical script resurgence by the calligraphers.As the most representative calligraphers,Fu Shan who first initiate the epigraphy,Zheng Fu who force after Qin and Han dynasty,Jin Nong whose Qishu has its own unique,Deng Shiru who has great achievement on seal and clerical script,Yi Bingshou integrates Yanti to clerical script.After that,we can have a deep understanding of the seal and clerical script resurgence on Qing dynasty.The author has own thoughts and gives supplement.In chapter four,it discusses the significance of seal and clerical script resurgence from three parts: the influence of epigraphy in the end of Qing dynasty,the settlement and development of epigraphic study and the effects of seal cutting in Qing dynasty.In conclusion,the author thinks that the seal and clerical script resurgence is the necessary part on calligraphy’ development in Qing dynasty.We can have a comprehensive understanding about Qing dynasty when we know the reasons of the resurgence and have a comprehensive understanding about the representative calligraphers.Then we can truly use the ancient to create the now,and contribute to the prosperity of contemporary calligraphy.
