The author is commissioned by public security bureau of Xingyang, Henan province, which has the responsibility for the domestic security. The policemen in charge of the anti-cult business are supposed to know the basic information and the background of all the major religions in China, so that they can distinguish the normal religious activities from all kinds of cult activities. As we know, Buddhism in our country occupies an important position in the system of religion, and religious gatherings and activities associated with Buddhism are held frequently. Its influence has infiltrated into many aspects of life, like culture and art.The author interpreted one episode of a documentary series titled Genius of the Ancient World produced by BBC, which introduced the Buddha and his thoughts. This episode will help the audience get more knowledge of Buddhism. Genius of the Ancient World was broadcasted on August 5, 2015 in BBC, which introduced great thinkers and philosophers in ancient times. In this documentary series, the production team came to India, Greece and China, to find the footprints of three great thinkers—Buddha, Socrates and Confucius, and to explore the mysteries that they could have been able to influence the world. It also talked about the value of their thoughts in modern times. This three-episodes documentary series included moderated commentary, access to researchers and the visit of the general public.The interpretation report is based on the translation of the episode of the Buddha. This report has a detailed introduction of the interpretation task, which includes the introduction of the task, the preparatory work, interpreting process and the conclusion. Firstly, the author provides the background and the requirement of this interpreting task. Secondly, the author introduces the preparation before the task, such as analyzing the characteristics of the original material, and collecting information. Thirdly, the author talks about the main theory, skopos theory, and interpreting methods taken by this report, like literal translation and free translation, as well as mistakes. By comparing the original manuscript and the interpretation, the author figures out the typical mistakes and their causes in the interpreting process. Finally, the author presents a summary in which a serial of conclusion has been drawn in terms of how to use tactics to fulfill the interpreting task and deliver a successful interpretation.
