The Sutra painting,which plays an important role in grotto,is the main theme of Dunhuang mural in Tang dynasty.It is also the resentative of the Chinese-styled Buddhist art that reflects the understanding and aesthetic view of Buddhism by Chinese people.The Painting of the Sutra of the Buddha of Limitless Lifespan in the Dunhuang’s 172 nd grotto is also an outstanding work which reflects the Chinese local painting style.The Painting of the Sutra of the Buddha of Limitless Lifespan in the Dunhuang’s 172 nd grotto,which is regarded as the master work,is not only the direct resources for researching the Buddhism and Buddhist art on the Silk Road,but also of crucial value for discussing other questions apart from Buddhism.The published image materials and the lucubrated case study all provide the new conditions for researching the paintings.This thesis focuses on the definition of the paintings and its changes,conducting researches in the aspects of the background,the evolution of the structure composition,the characteristics and the localized style.By combining the Buddhist culture and the history of art,the history of the painting will be arranged and classified and the reasonable explanation and analysis will be made.
