Due to its inadequate ability to create and design clothes, China, at present, is just a large clothing producer rather than a large fashion producer, so introducing and translating foreign theoretical works in this field is a pressing task. Therefore, the translator chose the introduction and the first as well as the second chapters of Fashion: A Very Short Introduction by Rebecca Arnold as the translation project text, for these parts involve in many descriptions of design works and art works, which are the difficulties of fashion English translation. In the translation process, guided by the theory of reception aesthetics, aiming to conform to the readers’ horizon of expectations and enhance their aesthetic experience, the translator used the methods of literal translation and free translation as well as some translation skills, including addition, conversion, division, changing word orders and changing voices to deal with the translation difficulties in convening the features of fashion English—many color words and technical words as well as long sentences and compound sentences. More importantly, the translator hopes that this report can provide some inspirations for fashion English translation and encourage the development of the Chinese fashion industry.
